"Two things define you. Your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything." - Unknown

What a simple statement that if you just take a moment, you can see is really true.  Patience is something that the sooner you realize you need it, the better off you will get.  That's been a life-long battle for me.  I guess with age comes the understanding on it's importance.  Patience is needed in all aspects of life.  It's a skill that can be improved upon and really needs to be focused on.

Attitude is the second piece of this 2 piece formula towards success.  It, like patience, is something that we have control over. Looking at the two, it's easy to see how others can judge us fairly quickly on if we have enough or not enough of these two important qualities.  How we respond to things shows our attitude.  How we deal with people shows our attitude.  How we deal with ourselves shows our attitude.  It's easy to see on how important it is to recognize when things start going our way, our attitude better be right.  It's the only way to handle things at that time.  The combination of patience and attitude is used in tough times and in good times for sure.  How do you measure up in these two areas?  I know I have to constantly look to try and improve upon both of them everyday.  I could use some help and advice on how you are able to do it.  Let me and others know by leaving a few thoughts.

“The goal in life is not to live forever, the goal in life is to create something that does.” – John Maxwell

John Maxwell always has great thoughts.  This is one of the many that I enjoy reading about.  I guess as I get closer and closer to 50 years old - still a couple of  years away - I get to thinking about the bigger picture about what is life all about.  This idea that he brings out, should get all of us thinking.  As usual with many success and leadership principles, the earlier you think about some of these things, and then start to implement them into your life, the better off you can be.

Everyone should understand that we can't live forever.  But John Maxwell is correct in getting us to think about creating things that do go on and on, even after we are gone.  It could be a book, articles, or other writings that we might produce that will be around for a long time.  It could be an invention maybe or even starting up a business that goes beyond our years.  But I tend to view this as the investments that we can make into other people that are the best things we can create that will last longer than we will.

The investments that we make in our own children that will pass onto others.  The way we treat and interact with others; both in and outside of our families will carry on after we are gone.  The example on how we lead our lives, do get picked up and noticed by others.  If we are leading our lives with positive examples - those will be remembered and used by others, which in turn will be picked up by others.  If it's the other way around, then others will use our not-so-positive examples in their lives and affect others with them.

Any thoughts?  Are you on your way to creating something that will last beyond your years?

"If you find a path with no obstacles, it probably doesn't lead anywhere." -Frank A. Clark

Mr. Clark brings up a good reality point for all of us - if things usually are not difficult, if they are too easy, most of the time that's not a path that leads anywhere.  Anything worthwhile in life, things that really matter and are important; usually are not easy.  If they were, everyone would be able to do it.

Chasing after things in life that you have passion for will help give you the energy and willpower to overcome those obstacles.  Remember, just living life to survive; living with no passion won't help you when the obstacles of life present themselves.  In fact I really believe that if you are on a path that's to easy, living with no passion, just surviving; you will find more obstacles that will seem much bigger than if you were on a path of purpose, passion and meaning.

What are your thoughts?  Are you looking to see what path you are on?

“Never give up on a dream just because of the time it will take to accomplish it. The time will pass anyway.”  - Earl Nightingale

What a great quote to not only remind us about the need to dream and to never give up on your dreams, but also there is the reminder about how precious time is.  As my friend Doug Evans says "Dreaming Is Never Optional".  It is easy to remember it as DINO.   All great things take time to accomplish, for if they didn't take the extra time, then everyone would do great things.

We all know that time goes by, and it seems more and more it's going by faster and faster as we get older.  Please understand a year will go by whether you go after your dreams or not.  Then it will be 5 years, and 10 and so on.  This is something that personally I've been battling with and I've started to figure this out that I have to start acting on my dreams and goals because time is not waiting for me. First you have to identify some dreams and goals that you want to accomplish.  Give yourself permission to do just that.

No matter what age you are right now - it's the perfect time to start identifying some dreams and goals and start today to go after them.  I'm trying to do something everyday, no matter how small that step is that will help me go after my dreams and goals. The sooner you start the better off you are since you will still have more time on your hands to continue to make those things happen.  Go ahead... start today.  Feel free to share any thoughts or ideas that you find helpful, or even things you are having trouble with.  I have a feeling that we can help each other out with these ideas.
