Worrying is something that I see a lot more of and for me being a teacher, there is more worry for the start of this school year than ever before. It's more than just the teachers. I think there is tremendous pressure on parents and students of course. I think there are many professions that have this more than ever during these times. Now is the time more than ever, for all of us to realize this and to help each other out more than ever before. When there are serious problems and issues happening in the world, there is always a call for everyone to come up with more solutions than ever before. Check out the podcast link above for some great ideas that we all can use.
A lot going on today on top of all the things going on in our world, it can get overwhelming a little bit at times. I did a Facebook Live video earlier where I mentioned some things that are on my mind a bit. Worrying is something that I do, but I try not to let it get out of hand. It started piling up a bit this morning when I thought about a few things differently and I wanted to share with you some of the insights and thoughts that I got from all of this stuff going on. The podcast that I was listening to that I talk about here is from Jon Gordon where he talks with Lecrae. You can listen to it HERE. I think we all get overwhelmed at times, especially in the crazy times we are all in right now. But there is hope out there. There are good things to get connected with and I hope this helps you do some of that.

Got all fired up from a conversation with the one and only Dr. Jeff Lip. We were talking about a book that we both recent read, "The Final Summit" by Andy Andrews. It was an eye, mind & heart opening book and Jeff brought up some great points that we talked about on his show. Check out his show HERE to hear our conversation and to find his other podcasts to listen to it. One thing I wanted to bring up was this idea of our lives being a mindset of a "! vs. ?". Our lives can be either a question mark (full of doubt, fear, lack of passion, etc.) or it can be an exclamation point (confidence, encouragement, passion, great relationships, etc.). There are so many things that we can do to get through the "stormy seas" that we all have going on in our lives and how we don't have to be scared along with realizing that we ourselves, can be the "calm" of our own storms. This came from this quote out of the book that Jeff shared with me in our discussion: "My life which was a question mark is now a statement. Stormy seas do not scare me for I am the calm in the storm. My past is behind me and my future is bright because I now know the secret of the present. I will do something and I will do it now." Part of this solution to have a life more of a "!" is by having great people in your life that you can talk with, bounce ideas off of, to have in your corner for encouragement and to learn from them too. Another thought is who's "storm" do you want to be driving your ship through? Your own "stormy seas" or someone else's where you are not the one in control. Same thought - do you want someone else driving your ship? I know I don't want that. Check out my podcast HERE where I share some thoughts & ideas. This is something that will help me to get my day & week started in a great direction. Hope it does the same for you. “Whatever the problem, be part of the solution. Don’t just sit around raising questions and pointing out obstacles.” ― Tina Fey
This got me thinking simply from the fact that it’s political season again and it seems that most, if not all the candidates that are running for president are just not connecting with me about them having solutions to the problems our country faces. In fact I think it’s most of America that see them as continuing to be part of the problems that we have in our country. It’s hard to remember a time where our country has not been so divided in what it seems as so many different areas too. I don’t see any political party helping this out at all. That’s what real leadership is all about, finding solutions for problems that affect people. To be a difference maker for those people, that’s what elected officials are supposed to offer – service to the people they represent. It seems that blame just keeps getting passed back and forth. I even forget this point as there are times I don’t help out problems and issues that go on around me, my family, my job, etc. I do like to think though that I work at getting back to the idea of offering ideas to solve or help the problems that are going on around us. I try not to stay in that negative mindset of pointing out the brick walls that we have to deal with, the blame game, and just that overall negative victim mentality. Seeing that the majority of our government leaders seem to have issues with solving problems along with creating more problems and dividing our society, I guess it’s up to us. We not only have the power, privilege, and responsibility to hold them accountable but we also need to take this approach with ourselves and our lives. We need to be an active part of the solution for our own problems that we face throughout our lives. That does not mean we don’t need help, but we won’t solve our own issues if we are not actively working on ourselves to find solutions. I need this quote this morning as my day got started out in a not so positive way – mainly due to me not thinking too clearly as I said something to my wife as she walked out the door that wasn’t the best thing to start her day off. I should have known better for sure. Now that I’ve read this quote again, I need to adjust my thinking and my actions to not only solve some problems that have come up with a variety of things we need to have done here to our house, but also to repair some damage I did this morning with my words. "Every challenge is nothing more than a chance to make things better." - Lolly Daskal
This in itself is an amazing quote due to the simple fact that since we have challenges just about every day of our lives, we have the chances every day to make things better. Some people have more challenges than others so they really have the opportunities to make significant changes in their lives to make things better. Another key to this thought I think is that not only can it help ourselves in our own life, but those that we are connected to as well. You see, all the people that are connected to us in our lives also face challenges. If we are able to have this way of thinking to help ourselves, we can also help those around us too. If you haven't noticed the world if full of challenges each and every day. Instead of complaining, criticizing, condemning about them and letting those challenges dictate life to us, we have the ability to look at how we can get better from this. We can spend our time looking to solve these issues or at least work towards making them better. Funny thing is, it's taken me so long to figure this out. Actually, I'm just starting to not only figure this out, but maybe even actually doing something about these things. Do I wish I figured it out sooner in life? You bet I do. I try and get my students to start thinking about these things sooner than I did. I always tell them to learn from me and others so they can do things differently than we did. Even today as I write these thoughts and ideas over a cup of coffee before I start my day, there are many things that I need to work on and this morning I did work on one small little thing instead of putting it off like I normally do. I look at that choice and I know my day today (a Monday) will start out better than normal all because of a choice I made to do something different this morning. How about you? What challenges are you going through that you are trying to make things better? Remember, we can learn so much from each other. I love being a teacher because I can help others get better. But the flip side is more true than that.... I get to learn from others. So drop me a note, leave some thoughts and ideas for me and others to learn from and make things better for you and others too. “Identify your problems but give your power and energy to solutions.” - Tony Robbins
This is not only a good quote for the week - but also one that is good for every day! I look at all the issues that are on my mind and that are out there for me (and others) to deal with starting out this week on a Monday. No wonder Monday's are not a favorite day of many people. I try and look forward to Mondays as I want to get things accomplished, get things going, etc. If I keep spending time on thinking about my problems that are in my life and complaining on how unfair they are, I am compounding those problems. I love what Tony Robbins says in this quote about giving our power and energy to finding solutions. If I keep thinking about the problems and worries without trying to get rid of them or solving them; those problems and worries will just get bigger. There always seems to be problems and issues in our lives. My Monday today has plenty to dwell on for sure. I also need to remind myself about which of those problems and worries can I actually do something about? Those things that I don't have any power over, those that I can't change at all, that are out of my control - those items I really need to let go of. Does that mean they don't affect me? No way. Many of these worries and problems will affect me - some very deeply. I've done what I could do with them and now some are out of my hands as to how they will turn out, but I will have to deal with the decisions made for sure. I saw another quote recently - and of course I should have saved it - but it mentioned something about worries robbing us of today, since it occupies our time and doesn't let us live in the moment (which is really all we have). Worrying also robs us of tomorrows since we cannot hope, plan or do things today that will make tomorrow better. What can you share on this topic that can help yourself and others? I am amazed everyday on the lessons I can learn from my students. I really am greatful for you taking the time to leave some thoughts about these topics each week. |
