Being Present & Focusing On Giving Others My Attention

10/21/2021

Found a great video clip that comes from Tony Robbins that reminds us about the importance of being in the present moment - wherever that might find us - it's really the only place to be.  Check out the video HERE.

Many times we get caught up in the past along with worrying about the future too.  We forget to look down to where our feet are, right now at the moment.  I love that reminder as it's quick and easy for us to make sure we know where we are right now & that's all we can do at the moment, is be where we are at.   I heard something recently from another podcast that gets right on top of this topic.  It was mentioned that what keeps us up at night are usually fearful, negative, worrisome issues.  Where the things that usually get us out of bed are more hopeful, inspiring, things to go after for the day, etc.

It's all part of not looking in the rear-view window of our lives and not focusing too much of the things way out in front of us either.  My good friend, Dr. Jeff Lip has mentioned it many times - if we get focused too much on the past, often times it leads to depression.  The fact that we are not as young as we used to be, the relationships that we lost, the regrets start piling up, etc.   If we focus too much on the future - we get anxious, worried about things we think are going to happen, etc.  We miss out on the present, the place we are currently at.  It's the only place that we can actually do something about.

Finally, when I am able to focus on other people and looking to help them; I am finding that not only do my problems get smaller, but I find out new ways & ideas of dealing with them too.  It allows me to open up to see new possibilities instead of being locked up inside my own head and trying to figure out solutions just from my perspective.

Statement vs. Question

Got all fired up from a conversation with the one and only Dr. Jeff Lip.  We were talking about a book that we both recent read, "The Final Summit" by Andy Andrews.  It was an eye, mind & heart opening book and Jeff brought up some great points that we talked about on his show.  Check out his show HERE to hear our conversation and to find his other podcasts to listen to it.  One thing I wanted to bring up was this idea of our lives being a mindset of a "! vs. ?".    Our lives can be either a question mark (full of doubt, fear, lack of passion, etc.) or it can be an exclamation point (confidence, encouragement, passion, great relationships, etc.).

There are so many things that we can do to get through the "stormy seas" that we all have going on in our lives and how we don't have to be scared along with realizing that we ourselves, can be the "calm" of our own storms. This came from this quote out of the book that Jeff shared with me in our discussion:

"My life which was a question mark is now a statement. Stormy seas do not scare me for I am the calm in the storm.  My past is behind me and my future is bright because I now know the secret of the present. I will do something and I will do it now."

Part of this solution to have a life more of a "!" is by having great people in your life that you can talk with, bounce ideas off of, to have in your corner for encouragement and to learn from them too. Another thought is who's "storm" do you want to be driving your ship through?  Your own "stormy seas" or someone else's where you are not the one in control.  Same thought - do you want someone else driving your ship?  I know I don't want that.

Check out my podcast HERE where I share some thoughts & ideas. This is something that will help me to get my day & week started in a
great direction.  Hope it does the same for you.

Examine Our Lives With Gratitude

8/7/2019

Another amazing event that we had this past weekend that came with more life lessons that made a big impact on me.  We went to a fantastic wedding - BIG SHOUT OUT to Kelsey & Cody!!   Amazing time with so many awesome people.  There were so many of my former students there in attendance - besides the bride & groom being former students too.    It reminded me as to how much gratitude I have for these "kids" - I guess they will always be my kids eventhough they are all playing the adult game of life & playing it really well.   So many of my former students inspire me with not only what they are doing now with their lives, but they also inspired me when they were in high school too.  So many valuable conversations that I had with them throughout their years in school.  Many times I got so much positive feedback and encouragement from them, that there was a distinct difference they made in my life.

Combined with some items from Brian Buffini's book again - "The Emigrant Edge", all about gratitude.  It should be a core value of our lives as it affects really all that we do.  I felt so much gratitude at this weeding.  Not only for all the great people around, but mostly because I was with my wife!  Going to a wedding in which there are great people, great food & drink, fantastic music, a lot of room to walk around, along with watching my wife enjoy herself so much.  I'm blessed with so much gratitude having her in my life - for almost 30 years of marriage.

Another BIG SHOUT OUT to Dr. Jeff Lip and his latest guest, Denyse from Canada.  I think it was his best show that he has evver done - please check that out (and all of his shows) at www.jefflip.com    I hope that after you listen to this show - that you take a more examined look at your life.  These two are just a small part of so many great relationships that I have in my life.  They make such a difference for me in my life.

Check out that person in the mirror a little more often and ask yourself - "how are things going?".   Then work whatever your answers are.
I know I'm trying to do this everyday.  It's all part of doing your life's "homework."  Reach out and let me know how your homework is going?

It's Time ....

Wow... what a productive morning today!!  I got up with my cup of coffee and our dog sitting on my lap as I finished up another book - "The Bottom of The Pool" by Andy Andrews.   What a fabulous book and I knew it would be since I listened to Andy Andrews on 3 different podcasts - 2 as a guest on Brian Buffini's Podcast and the other was on John O'Leary's podcast.  The third one of course was on Andy's own podcast - "The Professional Noticer".   The discussions I heard about this book sold me on getting a copy.

His book really got me thinking about my thinking!  It's everything to me as my thinking affects every thing in my life.  You might say duh... that's not a surprise at all.  But to hear it from him, to read it in the words that he shared so many stories about this - WOW was all I could say after reading it.  That is a book that you want to make sure you get your hands on for sure.

I also watched a video clip this morning sent to me by a good friend, Stan Targosz.  He sent it to Dr. Jeff Lip too as the 3 of us had a fabulous meeting this past week in recording a podcast for Jeff's show - again, a must listen to... find it (after August 12, 2019)  and all of his podcasts at www.jefflip.com -  We had some FANTASTIC and POWERFUL discussion both before and after the show.  I walked out of there very excited and fired up about things in my life.  A product  that usually comes from hanging out with awesome people like Stan and Jeff.

Finally, I got to work out this morning - which I'm back on my schedule of every other day getting to the gym.  That also allows me to listen to some great podcasts, do some awesome thinking, and always walking out of there feeling better about life and myself.    This morning was no different.   Scott Smith (The Daily Boost podcast), https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/motivationtomovecom/daily-boost  mentioned about that it's time to become the person you have always wanted to be.  To start doing the things that you need to do in order to start making that happen.  The little things matter for sure.  Changing habits matter.  Our thinking matters.  Action steps matter!  Again, this is something that I know  has to happen, but for many reasons (my excuses) they have not happened.  Amazing to get re-connected with this again.  I needed to hear it!

"Dr. Ron's Words of Wisdom"  (https://drronblake.com/welcome-to-dr-rons-words-of-wisdom/) was another podcast that I got to listen to, with help of Sam Crowley.  Dr. Ron mentioned that "only the prepared are in a position to change directions".  Again, total truth that needed to find it's way into my mind & heart.   Taking the action steps, changing my habits, doing little things that become big things!

What a great way to start my day and hope you use this to help yourself out a little.

Friday The 13th - Lucky & Blessed To Hang Out With 2 Great Guys!

7/13/2018

Amazing discussion today with 2 very good friends of mine - Mr. Todd Stevens and Dr. Jeff Lip.  Some great laughs, some fantastic insights to education, people, relationships, leadership and many other topics on a very lucky, Friday the 13th.   You have heard from Jeff before but this was the first of many visits I hope with Todd.  Join me in finding a little bit more about both these great educators.  Click HERE to listen to show #178.  Working with both of these guys in a career that we all enjoy being in, it reminds me how lucky I have to have Todd and Jeff as a part of my life.  They are both good men that look to help people.  The world needs more of what these 2 are all about.

After we recorded the show I took a drive across the street from the library, back to the neighborhood where my wife and I bought our first house back in 1992.  It made me remember how grateful that I am for her and I to get that great start  on our home ownership part of our lives.  I remember not having a clue about being a "home-owner"!  That was supposed to be my parents, certainly not me.  I didn't know anything about owning a home.  Looking back, we both figured out what we had to do and we are still doing that today after almost 21 years in our current home.  Things worked out for both of us for sure way back then.

You can always find Dr. Jeff at his website:  jefflip.com   on Twitter: @DrJeffLip    and you can get in touch with Mr. Todd Stevens at:  tstevens@lsps.org or on Twitter:  @LSHS_AP   Thanks for listening.  Please take a few moments to subscribe & share this with someone, also leave a 5 Star rating on ITunes or other services where you find this show.  Find me on Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/coachtoexpectsuccess/   on Twitter:  @coachtosuccess   and on Instagram at:  @coachjohndaly
