Our Choices Affect So Many People And Things In Life... Quote of the Week!

10/29/2014

“It is our choices, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” -- J.K Rowling

We all have many abilities to do so many different things in life, but when it really comes down to it, it’s our choices that make us who we are.  J.K. Rowling was right on with this thought.

Just think about it.  How many times we have to make a choice throughout each day of our lives.  There are the choices of what we think about things.  So many times, the thousands and thousands of thoughts that come into our heads that we have to actually choose a response or another thought.

One of the other things that we have to think about and choose something is with our words.  In communication with others, we have to quickly think about verbal responses.  Those we have to be careful with to make sure they are the right ones, that they are understood and not something that will cause more problems.

Usually our choices of our thoughts and words will lead us to our actions, and that is what we really get judged by more than anything.  We may have all the abilities in the world to do great things, but if we don’t indeed DO THEM, it doesn’t matter if we have the ability or not.  I think one important item for me is that I’m figuring out the things that I truly want to spend time doing.  Now the item for me to do, is to start doing those things.  It’s something we all have to figure out.  It’s something that is so very important because it’s not just us that are affected.  It’s everyone around us.  Now obviously those that are closer to us are affected a lot more than the casual acquaintances we come across on some days.

Another thing that popped into my head about this was due to so many recent events around the world. I really think that the world needs everyone to use their abilities along with their choices for making things better.  So many examples of bad things, heck, down-right evil things going on around the world and it’s becoming very apparent to me that each and every one of us need to do our best at everything we do along with doing those things in the right way.  Thereby, we can be setting examples for others about doing things the right way and having something to combat those bad and evil things going on around us.  In everyday situations, our choices and actions do indeed affect others and if we realize this, we can make better choices and do things better knowing that they do affect others.

I want to expand this thought a little bit and I may do just that in the near future.  Help me out by leaving some thoughts and ideas of your own.  Thanks.

Change Doesn't Always Mean Growth In Our Lives... Quote Of The Week.

"All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward." -- Ellen Glasgow

As time seems to be flying by faster and faster for a lot of people, we all need to realize that just because things are changing, we need to ask ourselves are we really growing during the changes?  Are we getting better? Or are we just staying the same.

So many of us, including myself always seem to be busy, but what are we busy doing?  Are we moving forward in our lives?  Moving towards the person we want to be?

I was listening to one of my favorite podcasts yesterday while I was mowing the lawn.  Sam Crowley talked about defining ourselves and getting to know ourselves and finding out who do we really want to become?  The changes that happen in our lives should be focused on helping us to define who we are and where we want to go.

Since we are constantly changing and getting older every day, this advice from Sam really connects with this quote.  We really need to focus in on having a say in our life as to what changes we go through, instead of letting changes just happen to us.  Since we are moving and doing things every day, we must also focus in on that movement and make sure it’s in a direction that we want it to be in.  If we define ourselves as to who we are along with who we really want to be, both of these parts of this equation should make more sense for us.

Remember what Morrie Schwartz said about getting older.  It doesn’t always mean decay, it also means growth.  Also remember we will decay as we get older without growing, learning, getting better and focusing on where we want to go.

The sooner we figure all of this out, the better we and everyone around us will be.  I’m working at figuring this out for me and I hope you are doing the same.  Share your thoughts and ideas.  I’m always looking forward to hearing what is on your mind.

In Life There Are Plenty Of Choices... Make The Right One When You Are Looking Ahead To Your Future - Quote of the Week!

"There's always something to suggest that you'll never be who you wanted to be. Your choice is to take it or keep on moving." -- Phylicia Rashad

We face choices every day in our lives.  We can make choices that take us closer to where we want to go, or we can make choices that will take us further away from our goals and dreams.  It’s up to us.  Along with the fact that we don't usually have all the time in the world to make these choices either.

There are also plenty of things in life and people too for that matter that will get in the way of those choices.  Not only will they get in the way, they will also make us believe that maybe we can’t do what we set out to do.  We all know people that are what’s called “dream suckers”.  They just suck the life out of any dream that we might have and make us feel like we can do it or even worse, it’s stupid for us to even try.

There are two major things we can do to help ourselves with this issue.  One is to have such a large dream, something that we are so fired up and passionate about,  that makes it nearly impossible for anything or anyone to get in the way of us making it happen.  The second thing is for us to identify those obstacles or brick walls (both things and people) and for us to work hard at avoiding them and choosing not to allow them to affect our efforts.

The main reason this caught my eye this week were the events that me and my family went through last week and are continuing to go through this week.  We had a family funeral to attend as my cousin Dave passed away suddenly last week.  To see the tons of people that turned out at the family get-together at their home along with the funeral service the next day – it was totally amazing.  To hear all the stories about how he affected so many people was awesome and inspiring too.

My cousin chose to keep moving to chase his goals and dreams.  He didn’t let any of those brick walls stop him at all, in face he used them to inspire himself to stick to his plan.  One of the many thoughts that struck me was that from all the different people he affected and helped during his lifetime, he helped them by going after his goals and dreams.  He went after being a professor at a university, and he did that and more.  He wrote a book in his field that is referenced so many times around the world.  His studies and projects that he worked on were leading to new ways of thinking and lead others to new discoveries too.  He loved sports, especially soccer and basketball.  His coaching encouraged so many kids to stick with the game and getting better along with battling through their fears.  Huge life lessons!

You see, by going after our goals and dreams we can help many more people along the way than if we don’t go after them.  In fact we will hold others back from attaining their goals and dreams by not going after ours.  That was a huge lesson my cousin left for others. I for one took notice.  How about you?  Any of these thoughts connect with you?  Are there people out there that are an example for you?  Always looking to learn – share your thoughts so that you can help others too.

Here are 3 "P's" that really make sense for us to focus on in life... Quote of the Week

"Patience, persistence and perspiration make an unbeatable combination for success." -- Napoleon Hill

With so much going on in everyone's life, I caught this quote and wanted to share some thoughts as to how this can help us all through the busyness.  The patience part I've been hearing a lot about lately, whether it be in sports, in relationships, waiting for news about something important, etc.  Doesn't really matter the event, having patience (calmness, a positive attitude, a clear head, etc.) sure does help.  I have been focusing on this so many times in the last few years and it seems to help me get through things a lot better.

Persistence is also something that I've been looking at a lot more, especially since I didn't have it in a few areas growing up.  Oh there are plenty of things that I have stuck with and not quit on, but there seems to be plenty that I have not been persistent with.  Looking back with regrets is something that quite frankly, I'm not only a little ticked off about, but I'm also trying to learn from those things and make things better for me right now.

The there is the last "P" from Mr. Hill.  Perspiration!  Now let me tell you and my family will back me up on this, I don't have any problems with perspiration.  But being sweaty most of the time really is not what Napoleon Hill was connecting this to.  This is where the hard work comes into play.  The effort, the action, the determination to move forward by doing things necessary to attain the goal you are going after. This too has been a struggle for me in some areas.  When I focus on this statement and I look back, I say to myself, John... you have so many examples to refer back to so you can make some great changes in your life.  So instead of looking at the negative side of things I haven't done too well - I'm looking at these with optimism and hope that I can use those instances to move forward.

This quote that I found late on Sunday also fits into what our families are going through presently.  My brother-in-law is in the hospital having a very serious procedure done to save his life.  We are still waiting to see how he comes out of this.  Then last night we found out that one of my 3 cousins died suddenly.  So needless to say to get through this trying time along with moving forward in life - all 3 of the "P's" above need to be focused on for sure.  Where can you use them in your life right now?  Always looking to learn from others - leave some comments to help yourself and others.
