"If you could get up the courage to begin, you have the courage to succeed." -- David Viscott

When I saw this quote of course I saw it how it related to me.  For a long time, having courage to start things has been a problem for me at times.  It's amazing that during those times, once I get started on things it gets easier as time goes on.  For me, and I think for others too, just to get started on something is the most difficult thing to get through.  The worry, the thoughts of how difficult it might be, and yes the thoughts about failure come to mind too.

I was listening to Les Brown yesterday along with some things from Zig Ziglar too.  Both speakers had amazing messages and both touched upon this subject.  Waiting to get started on doing something due to fear of failing, robs so many people of things that could benefit not only themselves but a great number of other people too.  I think for me, that has been an issue for some time.  The old saying is that a lesson is repeated until a lesson is learned.  That is something that I guess I've been going through for some time now.

Les Brown also brings up another great point.  He mentions the idea that the most valuable piece of real estate is the grave yard.  I believe he's right.  He mentions that most people die with their "music" still in them.  All the great ideas they had, but never acted upon.  All the great intentions, that never were started.  Les mentions that all those great inventions and things that would have helped so many people, are all gone now.  Every time I hear Les talk about that, I know he's talking to me.  I'm wondering, is he talking to you too?  Do you have challenges getting the courage up to get things done or even get things started?  As always, I enjoy hearing from others on this subject because I can always use more help in learning about getting better.  I also know that other people need help too.  Funny thing, Les mentions that too.  We need to remember that we all need help in getting better and learning more.  We don't have all the answers and cannot do it all on our own.  Please, let me know your thoughts and ideas on this and any other items here on my blog.

"I've found that luck is quite predictable. If you want more luck, take more chances. Be more active. Show up more often." -- Brian Tracy

Here is that idea again.  We hear it all the time.  Why do some people always seem to get lucky, while others struggle?  I think Brian Tracy has the right idea about luck.  Most of it is predictable.  By working hard, getting involved, having goals and dreams along with the understanding that you have to work hard to make things happen; having luck find you, will usually happen.

I see so many people spending their time being resentful and jealous of people that always seem to get "lucky".  They complain, criticize, and condemn those people as to how unfair it is for them not to have the same "luck".  I've found it to be true that maybe those people should watch and learn from those people who always seem to get lucky.  I've heard it over and over again that success leaves clues.  Watch and learn from successful people to see how they do things and then maybe try some of those things.

I've found this statement to be true in my life, especially with the "active" part.  Being active is a huge key for me and I'm learning that (it's about time) from watching others.  As I've heard from Les Brown - "you can die in the stands or you can die on the field" in the game of life.  Show up in the game and play!  That's great advice for me and maybe it is for you too.  In fact, let me know how this quote affects you?  I bet I (and others) could learn from you on this.

"Don't let someone else's opinion of you become your reality." - Les Brown

When I first heard Les Brown talk about this - it really hit home with me and my students.  Many times I think we give up control to those people in our lives that will fill our heads with doubt.  Many times the critics in our lives are those that are the closest to us.  Those people that love and care for us - and we for them, will sometimes be the biggest distractors for us to get through.

I am also reminded by this statement that we also have to work on our own opinion of ourselves.  If we hear enough negative from others in our lives and add it to our own self-doubting opinion about ourselves, that is a recipe for going nowhere.  Where if we have the attitude and mental preparation to take these opinions as fuel or reasons for getting better - to use them as inspiration, well... that's another story.  When you actually sit back and think about things like this, isn't it the right thing to do - to take these critics in our lives and use their opinions to help us do more and get better?  That's an approach that I think would be great for all of us to use.  I know I need to do just that!

There are so many things that Les Brown says that really hits home for me and for my students too.  I suggest you look him up and read some of his books, listen to some of his audio recordings, and watch his videos as he's got so many messages to connect with so many different people.    Another quote he gave to us in this recent presentation - "the best revenge is massive success."  For all the doubters and critics in our lives, that is something that will help others to see our true reality for sure.

Any thoughts or ideas on this from Les Brown.  Remember, not only do your thoughts and ideas help me, they help yourself and many others too.  When you take the time to put some of these in writing - it gets you thinking about making adjustments in your life.  Might be right then when you do it, or later on sometime.  Either way, it's good to share your thoughts and ideas on these quotes... so thank you for doing just that.
