As we look at celebrating the legacy of Martin Luther King, Jr., I saw this quote and it connected to me this week. There seems to be a long list of negative, sad, dark, etc., stories out in the world media today (as many times there are) – that to me, this made sense to get out there and talk a little bit about.
Darkness can only be fixed or dealt with by adding light, not more darkness. I connect with that along with the fact that hate cannot make much difference in getting rid of hate, only love can really have a much larger affect. To me, that is what our world needs more than ever – more light being shed onto these negative, sad, hateful events along with adding less hate and more love. Dr. King was right on with his message and it’s great that we honor him because it helps us focus on his message and how it’s still needed, even more so in today’s world.
There are many forces today, both here in the United States and obviously world-wide, that focuses on darkness and hate. The best way to combat that focus is shedding light and focusing more on love. This is not just for the huge stories, such as terrorism groups, kidnappings, robberies, etc., but this can also work in smaller things in our daily lives too.
The little things that everyday people can do to add more light and love to the world can have a larger compound affect not only for ourselves, or families, our co-workers, but then all the people that they come into contact with as well. How we treat each other, the more we help each other, the more positive things we do in our lives – can have a great affect on things all over.
What a great mindset to have as we go into the second half of the first month of the new year. What are some of the things you can focus on adding more light to along with more love? Just find a couple of spots in your life and watch the differences start to show. I know there are a couple of areas that this would work for me and I’m going to focus on improving those for sure.
